Thomas R. Clark's Obituary
Thomas R. Clark passed away peacefully at his home in The Villages, after a valiant fight against cancer. Tom lived a full life, characterized by an unparalleled work ethic and an even stronger commitment to his family and friends.
Born and raised in Burlington, NJ, Tom followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and became a plumber immediately after graduating from high school. He soon started his own mechanical contracting firm, TR Clark Inc., where he dedicated more 35 years doing commercial contracting for large hospitals in New Jersey and the surrounding areas. Much of his work was dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden. No matter the job, Tom was always the first to arrive and worked harder than anyone. In addition to his work ethic, Tom was known for his strong faith and generosity — often helping friends, family and many others with handyman services in both New Jersey and Florida.
Tom met his wife, Sandy, in Burlington in 1982. They married in 1988, and traveled frequently to NASCAR and Indy Car races, which Tom followed regularly. He was a dedicated stepfather and grandfather, who loved to decorate the house for Christmas and host Easter egg hunts for his grandchildren.
Tom officially retired in 2012 and moved to The Villages. He took up golf and played several times a week with his friends and family. Ever the perfectionist, he practiced nearly every day, and recorded three holes in one during the past 12 years. Tom was pre-deceased by his father and mother, Fred and Katherine, and his brother, Frank.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; two children, Robert (Abbie) and Laura; three grandchildren, Bailey, Conner and Shawn; brother, Jon (Lori) and sister, Coleen; and two nephews, Mathew and Tyler.
Services will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church at 10am on Wednesday, June 4th, followed by interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Leesburg. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation in Tom’s memory to Cornerstone Hospice, cshospice.org, or Moffitt Cancer Research, MOFFITT.org/Give.
