Sandra Elaine Smith's Obituary
Sandra ( Sandy) Elaine Smith 81, of Leesburg, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on February 21,2022. She was born in Waynesboro, PA , and graduated from Quincy High School, PA in 1958. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert ( Bob) Smith, sister, Linda West, and brother Howard Zody, 3 sons, Stephen, Douglas, and Ross,as well as loving grandchildren Luz Ma, Cason, Madaline, Keirstin & Brady. In addition to her parents, H. Boyd and Pearl Zody, Sandy was predeceased by her brothers Melvin Barr Zody and William ( Bill) Zody.
In 1960 Sandy met the love of her life at Penn State University and they were married the following year. They had three sons, Stephen, Douglas and Ross. Bob was offered a position at The University of Notre Dame in 1970 and the couple grew their young family in the shadow of the Golden Dome.
Sandy became active at Clay United Methodist Church in South Bend, IN where she welcomed people as a greeter, a reader to the preschool children and as a member of The United Methodist Women’s Circle. She was always available to her friends and family to provide meals or baked goods or sit with their children. Sandy was known for her chicken paprikash and her servant heart.
In 1999 she and Bob retired to Pennbrooke Fairways in Leesburg, FL. Sandy enjoyed the warm weather and water aerobics, reading to the children at church, collecting school supplies for needy children, playing darts, and being a member of The Red Hat Society. She was known in her community as The Hat Lady.
Sandy will be laid to rest at Bushnell National Cemetery, FL.
