Marilyn C. Shaw's Obituary
Marilyn C. Shaw age 73, of Fruitland Park, Florida passed away late Friday – June 12, 2015 at Florida Hospital -Waterman in Tavares, Florida. Marilyn was native of Lake County, Florida and a former longtime teacher’s aide at Fruitland Park Elementary and Middle East School in Leesburg, Florida. She went on to serve over 23 years as an intake officer for the Department of Corrections and retired in 2006. She was an alumni of Eustis High School and was a majorette. She had a heart for people and those closest to her will remember her as life loving, and joyful. She was always looking for ways to help others, and any task she undertook she endeavored to complete it to the very best of her abilities. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and she was most happy when spending time with her family. Her biggest passion outside her family was Cub and Boy Scouts, and she served as a Committee Chair of Pack 143 in Fruitland Park, and had served as District Commissioner. She was awarded many of Boy Scouts of America’s most distinguished awards. (The District Award of Merit, Central Florida Council Silver Beaver award, Distinguished Commissioner Award, James E. West Award the Baden Powell Woodbadge Beads and she was a member of the Order of the Golden Arrow.)
She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 50 years – Murdoch, sons – Murry (Robin) Shaw of Leesburg, and Marc Shaw of Weirsdale; a brother – Leroy Sterling Copeland of Eustis; a grandson Michael (Tiffany) Shaw of Leesburg and 3 great-grandchildren – Madison, Jacob, and Trevor.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Boy Scouts of America or a local food bank of choice.
A funeral service celebrating Marilyn’s life is planned for
11:00 AM – Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Community United Methodist Church in Fruitland, Park. The family encourages all of Marilyn’s Scouts and Scouting Friends to wear their uniforms to the service in her honor. The family will receive friends at the Page-Theus Funeral Home – 914 West Main Street, Downtown Leesburg on Friday, June 19, 2105 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
