Benjamin "Ben" O. Guthrie's Obituary
Benjamin (Ben) Guthrie, age 83, of The Villages, FL, passed away on July 3, 2016. He was born in Washington, DC on February 19, 1933 to the late Dewey and Margaret Guthrie.
Ben is survived by his wife, Betty, his daughters, Deborah Rondeau of Charlottesville, Virginia; Donna (Tony) Deane of Burtonsville, Maryland; Laura (Bill) Davis of South Riding, Virginia; son, Benjamin (Lisa) Guthrie of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, David, Marcus (Samantha), T.J. (Camille), Ryan, Brandon, Austin, Colton, Brooke, Ian and Noah; his sisters, Margaret (Spence, deceased) Foster of Gambrills, Maryland and Dixie (Mark) Trusheim of Alexandria, Virginia; his brother, Bill (Suzanne) Guthrie of The Villages, Florida. Ben is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by two sisters, Mary (Ed) Sylvia and Barbara (Robert, deceased) Taylor and brother, Dewey (Ann, deceased).
Ben was the beloved husband of Betty for 63 years. He enlisted in the United States Navy in September 1952 during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. During his work career, he was a manager in the manufacturing industry, and later, a facilities engineer for the John Hechinger Lumber Company in Maryland. In 2003, Ben and Betty moved to The Villages, Florida where he worked part-time in the pro shops at several of The Villages Country Clubs. Ben also was an active member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Summerfield, FL.
Ben, dearly loved all his family; he is a kind, most loving and compassionate man with a wonderful sense of humor; he is a devoted husband, father, grandfather and best friend, and he always will be; his smile lights up a room; he is a dedicated “Washington Redskins” fan and enjoyed Sunday afternoons at R.J. Gators with fellow Redskin fans. Ben is deeply loved and will be missed by everyone. Memories go for miles.
