William Gurany Sr.'s Obituary
William Gurany Sr., age 80, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 in Leesburg, Florida. William was born in El Paso, Texas, and moved to the Plantation at Leesburg in 2003 from Severna Park, Maryland. He was an electrical engineer and entrepreneur and worked for the Boeing, Westinghouse, Bendix, and Gould companies before forming his own company, W. Gurany and Company, in Glen Burnie, Maryland. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Western College in El Paso. William had a deep love of his family and was known for his quiet strength and his willingness to help anyone in need. He was an avid golfer and shot a hole-in-one three times in his golfing career. He was a charter member of the Plantation Golf Club, a former member of the Plantation Architectural Review Committee, and a founder of Friends Helping Friends. He also supported small business owners by working with S.C.O.R.E. (Service Corps. of Retired Executives) with the Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years – Betty; sons – William Gurany, Jr. of Topsail, NC; Bob (Honora) Myers – Kennett Square, PA; Kathleen Gurany of Charleston, SC; Jennifer Stipetic of Suzhou, China; Suzanne Myers of California; and Laura (Scott) Rockas of Johns Creek, GA; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to: Deliver the Difference Kids Foodpack Program in Eustis, Florida, or the Corpus Christi Church in Okahumpka, Florida.
A celebration of William’s life is planned for Wednesday, February 17, at 10 am at the Corpus Christi Church at 3430 County Road 470 in Okahumpka, Florida 34762.
