Walter Henry Hixenbaugh's Obituary
Walter H. Hixenbaugh passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at the age of 89. He was born on Nov. 7, 1924 in Somerville, MA to the late Everett and Lillian Hixenbaugh. Walter served his country in the Seabees during WWII and then continued his service as a civilian contractor to the Dept. of Defense. In 1982 he left civilian service and retired from Adak Station, Alaska, returning to his native Cape Cod area. In 2000 he made his home in the Royal Highlands development along with his loving wife Jeannette. Walter was very active in sports playing, managing, and coaching the Royal Highlands softball team. He also enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, and was very active in various veterans’ organizations. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years; Jeannette Hixenbaugh, four daughters; Paula (Peter) Firstbrook of London, England, Carol Hixenbaugh Daniels of Lexington, MA, Janet (Jim) Ruddick of Snellville, GA and Kathy (Bob) Woodyard of Plymouth, MA. along with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson D.J. Hurley. Visitation for Mr. Hixenbaugh will be at the Page-Theus Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m.. A Memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the funeral home event room. Inurnment will take place in the Bourne National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
