RIP SIR
Our Deepest Sympathy to Carol, Dawn and Tim at the passing of Tom,
Tom Smiddy was my childhood Sunday school teacher, and a personal friend and supporter for 35 years to my wife and me as we worked in foreign missions. Tom and Carol Smiddy were among my first ministry partners when I join the organization I still work with to the present day. They started contributing in June, 1990 when I first joined the mission as a single, and have continued as partners consistently during my entire missionary career up until the present time.
As a Sunday School teacher Tom was the most patient and kind man with grade school rambunctious boys, always responding to our pranks and goofing around with gentleness and a grace-filled smile. He was an encourager, a listener, had a learner’s posture and was always ready with a smile and good humor. He embodied the kind of teacher at a church program that any parent would want for their kid, because he made Sunday school both a fun and interesting place where we wanted to go. The world would be a better place with more Tom Smiddys in it.
Tom had a deep faith in Jesus, and lived that faith out with integrity.
He will be missed by all who knew him, but we know he is with the Savior he entrusted his life to - the best place to be.
Sincerely,
Jim (& Debbie) Shoberg
Uncle Tom was the best Uncle ever! He was kind, generous, happy, n had a great sense of humor! Our families shared alot of get togethers, especially around the holidays. My Dad, n Uncle Tom were brothers, they didn't get to spend alot of time together growing up, because my Dad was the oldest, n Uncle Tom was the baby, with Uncle Don in between. They did make up for loss time over the years, n Uncle Tom always looked up to his older brother. Uncle Tom, n Aunt Carol were always there for my children also, spent summers at their church camp in Wisconsin, n taught both boys Mike, n Scott to fish. Liz was still a young toddler, so unfortunately missed out on those activities. I will be forever grateful for my Uncle Tom, he was the best! We will all miss him, until we meet again !
