Born on November 15, 1960, in Bangor, Maine, Tom was one of six children. He graduated from the Walkersville High School, Maryland where he would have a storied athletics career competing in basketball, football, and baseball, to include a state championship. He would then begin an illustrious career with the United States Navy where he would devote an almost 25 year career to service for the country he very much loved. He was a highly decorated officer and highly recognized for his commitment to the US Navy and would proceed beyond retirement where he would receive the highest honors as a 10 year civilian working for the United States Veterans Administration and the United States Coast Guard. Professionally he would obtain his bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees while staying dedicated to his passion of service. He would then retire, while living in The Villages with his loving wife and surrounded by friends that he cherished. Tom looked forward every day to walking the neighborhood to stop and engage in conversation with everyone he met.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married his high school sweetheart, Merril Oliver, in 2012. Together they picked up their love story after being reunited from their initial relationship. As a father, Tom Jr., was the pride of his life. His devotion and influence on his son is his most proud accomplishment. In retirement, Tom enjoyed golfing, clay shooting, and enjoying the community of The Villages, taking his golf cart to listen to live music, walking his faithful canine companions, Bailey and Channing, and a resilient dedication to the Buffalo Bills. Tom was the epitome of a Patriot and loved his country very much.
