Terry R Shook's Obituary
Terry R. Shook, 81, of Leesburg, FL, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2022 at UF Health Leesburg. Terry was born in Toldeo, Ohio to his beloved parents Emerson and Donna (Culver) Shook.
Terry grew up in Lake Erie, and since he was young had always enjoyed being on the water. His parents had boats while he was growing up; and he and his wife owned several boats over the years. He was a member of Catawba Island Club in Ohio and the Hawthorne of Leesburg Boat Club, serving as its Commodore in 2007 and was awarded its Boater of the Year award in 2005.
Terry served in the US Coast Guard from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1966. Following his service, he was an Engineer in the steel stamping business designing parts for the automotive industry. Terry holds several patents under the companies he worked with, Toledo Pressed Steel and Toledo Technologies. Terry retired and moved with his wife, Judy, to Leesburg 20 years ago.
Terry met his future wife, Judith Givens, at DeVilbiss High School in Toledo, Ohio. They started dating after graduating in 1958 and were married in June of 1962. They moved to Sylvania where they raised their two daughters. Terry and Judy had 52 wonderful years before her passing in 2014.
Terry was a very dedicated husband, father and grandfather to his family. Terry’s family have very fond memories of spending summers together on the lake and boating.
Terry was a very active member of his community; he was active in the Hawthorne Boat Club, the Hawthorne woodcrafters club, and Hawthorne's Celebration Square. Terry was a Master Mason in the Leesburg Masonic Lodge #58 and a 32° Master of the Scottish Rite; a Bahia Shriner at the Lake County Shrine Club in Tavares, where he enjoyed the Mariners club serving as its Commodore in 2018, the Fire Brigade, and transporting patients from Lake County to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa. He was also a member of the Masonic High Twelve Club at Hawthorne, serving as their President in 2012. Terry also served as the Chaplain for the Florida State Association of Masonic High Twelve Clubs in 2012.
Terry is survived by his loving daughters: Kimberly Snide and her husband, Pete, of Leesburg, FL, and Kelli Shook and her partner, Ron, of Sylvania, OH. as well as two precious grandchildren: Nolan and Madison.
Terry is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judith and his parents.
A memorial service for Terry is scheduled for Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 1:30pm - 4pm at the Lake County Shrine Club, 424 N Duncan Dr, Tavares, FL 32778.
