Steven Craig Winchell's Obituary
Steven Craig Winchell, 54 of Ocklawaha, FL passed away on March 23, 2026.
Born June 1, 1971 in Lake County, FL to Joel and Chloe Winchell, Steven later relocated to Marion County, FL.
Steven will be remembered for many things. His love of life, family and friends was abundantly clear to any who knew him. He had a caring and generous heart and would give others the shirt off his back if asked. He also had a forgiving spirit, even when wronged.
One of his greatest joys was the water. Whether he took his boat for a day on the lake or went scalloping or scuba diving for lobster in the ocean, he fully embraced the “Florida life”. Those that knew him could easily recognize him in his fishing shirt & shorts - even in winter. His signature style - the shades that always adorned his face or sat propped on his head - paired with that cheesy grin, let you know it was him at a glance. Steven was always playful, and not much could slow him down.
He was a framer by trade, working alongside his brother, Joseph, for many years. He later followed in the footsteps of his Uncle Mike & began his own construction business.
Steven is survived by his loving and caring mother, Chloe Winchell; his brother, Joseph Winchell of Weirsdale; two sisters, Amanda Perez of Fruitland Park, and Sarah Mellado of Belleview, FL.; four nieces & one nephew - Autumn, Sierra, Victoria, Madison & Luciano; one uncle, Phillip Winchell; two aunts, Deborah Erb, and Rebecca Miller; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joel Winchell; his grandparents, Frederic and Thelma Winchell, and Ray and Myrtle Dealing; beloved uncles, Michael Winchell and Francis Dealing; and his dear aunt, Mary Winchell.
In his memory, we would also like to recognize Kaiden and Ashlee; although not related by blood, they held a special place in his heart.
Steven lived a full and meaningful life, though it ended far too soon, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
