Ruth Buchanan Cook's Obituary
Ruth Buchanan Cook (Dolly) 89 years old, passed away at Leesburg Regional Medical Center on Thursday Sept. 8, 2016. Ruth was born on 7-25-1927 in East La Port, N.C. to Thomas C. and Minnie Hoyle Buchanan.
At 4 years old Ruth lost her parents and grew up with her siblings at Oxford Orphanage N.C. She attended John Nichols High School and then Lees-McRea College in Banner Elk, N.C. to train as a Doctors secretary.
Ruth married James T. Cook in February 1952. She lived in Belle Glade, Florida for more than 10 years, working as a secretary for dentist, Dr. Luce.
In 1966 her husband passed away and she moved back to N.C. where she worked for U.S.D.A Forest Service in Tuckaseegee, N.C. until 1995. She then returned to Florida (Inverness.)
Ruth loved the mountains of N.C., gardening, crocheting, animals, solving crossword puzzles, reading, golf, U.S. horse races and family.. She was a member of Kappa Delta PHI Sorority.
Ruth is survived by nephews: Thomas A. Buchanan Jr., Charles Buchanan, James Buchanan, Vern R. Clark Jr., Alan B. Clark and Gabe Jonas.
Nieces: Crystal Selsor, Julie Clark, Jeanie McGraw, Sandra Buchanan, Kim Buchanan,
Judy Ashe Miller, Debbie Johnson, Dyann Barfield Jonas, and sister-in-law Sarah Buchanan and many more extended family.
Ruth was predeceased by parents: Thomas C. and Minnie Hoyle Buchanan. Brothers: Charles B., Delonis, and Thomas A. Buchanan. Sisters: Elizabeth (Betty) B. Clark and Vera Ashe. Sister-in-law Louise Barfield and good friend Shirley Odor.
Ruth's favorite Bible Verse was; Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
