Ronald George Ockert's Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald George Ockert on January 22, 2026. Born on September 21, 1949, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ron left a great imprint on all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His absence will be profoundly felt by his loved ones and all who knew him.
Ron was a smart, witty, gentle man, known for his kind and encouraging deep voice, a wonderful friend, colleague, and mentor.
Ron had been a musician since high school where he was Drum Major in band, playing tuba. He played upright bass and then electric bass. He spent his early years playing in several bands and performing across the country. In the late 80’s Ron began his career in Public Radio at KSTK in Wrangell, Alaska. From there he moved to Eureka, California and worked at KHSU where he was recruited to help start a radio station on Guam, KPRG. From there he moved to Syracuse, NY where he retired from WAER after
nearly 20 years. In retirement he moved to Leesburg, Fl to assist his aging Mother where he worked part time in Logistics for Quest Diagnostic Labs.
For fun, he enjoyed listening and playing music, being creative on his computer, gathering genealogy information, reading books, and growing flowers.
Ron is preceded in death by his father Frank and brothers Frankie and Dennis. He is survived by his wife Annie, mom Yvonne, twin sons Mark and Eric, grandchildren Emily, Ryan, Ella, and Macy, great grandsons Sebastian, Julian, and Adrian.
Ron will be remembered for his music, his kind heart, and his sense of humor.
There will be a celebration of his life on March 15, 2026, at 3pm in the clubhouse where he lived at Corley Island Mobile Manor 138 Kings Blvd, Leesburg, FL.
