Richard E. Roberts' Obituary
Richard E. Roberts, 94, passed away peacefully on June 7, 202 at Osprey Pointe Nursing Center in Bushnell, Florida.
Mr. Roberts was born on September 25, 1925 to Theodore and Emma Roberts in Manhattan, New York, here he grew up until moving to the Hudson Valley, NY in the late 1960’s.
Mr. Roberts taught English at Arlington Senior High School in Poughkeepsie, NY until his retirement in 1982. He moved from the Hudson Valley, NY to Leesburg, Florida a few years after his retirement.
He was and aficionado of Dixieland Jazz and Ragtime music. He played the cornet and trumpet for many venues throughout the years. He also enjoyed traveling, history and collecting old movies. While living in Leesburg, he belonged to a writers’ club and spent many hours as an amateur writer.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his three children, Amy Cordero, and husband Anthony Cordero, Elizabeth (Betsy) Reed, and husband Dwight Reed, and Philip Roberts and wife Gladys. Mr. Roberts had two grandchildren, Rachael Devens, (spouse, Michael Devens) and Michelle Roberts. He also has three great grandchildren, Faye Bright, Noah Bright and Gabriel Devens.
