Richard Payne's Obituary
Richard Payne, 90, of Lady Lake, FL, went home to be with God on June 27, 2025. Born on January 7, 1935, in Dayton, OH, to Paul and Ruth (Thompson) Payne, Richard lived a life defined by faith, family, and quiet generosity.
A devoted follower of Christ, Richard’s deep love for God guided every part of his life. His faith was the cornerstone of his character—he treated everyone he met with kindness, humility, and genuine compassion. Whether through a word of encouragement, a helping hand, or a warm smile, Richard had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen, loved, and valued.
Richard proudly served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He was also a gifted entrepreneur with an adventurous spirit, buying, restoring, and selling businesses with a sharp eye. Yet no matter how busy or successful he was, Richard always made time for what mattered most—his faith and his family.
He shared over 50 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sherry. Together, they created a life full of laughter, grace, and unforgettable memories. Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who poured his heart into his family. He was an amazing pilot, boat captain, fisherman, and cook. He also found joy in the simple things—playing 500 rummy around the table or simply spending time with those he loved most.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Payne; his children, Mary and her husband Steven, Rebecca, Elizabeth, and Andrew; and his four cherished grandchildren. He will be remembered as a man of unwavering faith, selfless love, a generous heart, and a joyful spirit—a true reflection of the God he served.
