Richard Joseph Furlong's Obituary
Richard Joseph Furlong, 82, Leesburg, Florida passed away on May 15, 2023 at Cornerstone Hospice House in Tavares, Florida with his loving family by his side. Richard was born on October 2, 1940 in Camden, New Jersey to his parents Richard Anthony Furlong and Catherine Geraldine (Ryan) Furlong.
He and his loving wife Gerry moved to Leesburg in 2018 from Southbury, Connecticut. Richard was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Paul Catholic Church in Leesburg. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran who served during the Post Korean period. Richard was a retired Captain from the New Jersey State Police with over 30 years of dedicated service to the citizens of New Jersey.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 48 years: Geraldine “Gerry” Furlong of Leesburg, FL; three sons: Rich Furlong of New York, NY, Steve Hawthorne and his wife Barbara of Brick, NJ and Paul Furlong and his wife Lisa of Newtown, PA; a daughter: Jackie Scholten and her husband Scott of Holly Springs, NC; two brothers: Dennis Furlong of Fraser, CO and Joe Furlong and his wife Jen of Audubon, NJ; 11 grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held on July 14th starting at 11:00am at The Olde Church of Saint Andrew, 135 S Sycamore Street, Newtown, PA. Following the mass, he will be interred at the New Jersey State Police Memorial Columbarium, 1040 River Road, Ewing, NJ starting at 1:00pm where he will be laid to rest with his fellow state troopers.
