Raymond "Ray" R. Cannon's Obituary
Raymond R. Cannon, Sr. age 83 passed away suddenly Thursday, September 25, 2015 in Leesburg, Florida. Ray was born in New York City and moved to the Plantation at Leesburg in 2010 from New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Before retiring he had a 31 year career with Grumman Aircraft. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. He loved to be active and was a member of the Plantation Pickleball Association, Plantation Dart League, and the Eustis Elks Club. He also enjoyed flying radio controlled planes and was a member of the Pear Park Pilots, and the Southern Eagles Pilots Clubs. Ray is remembered by those closest to him for his loving, fun, generous, and entertaining personality. He took joy in making those around him smile. He was predeceased by his first wife Margaret and his son Police Officer Raymond R. Cannon, Jr. who died in the line of duty in New York.
Ray is survived by his wife of Shirley Olex-Cannon; his Children – Mark and Kathie Cannon, Mike and Kathy Cannon, Jerry and Jenny Cannon, David and Liz Cannon, Karen and Randolph Farmer; Brother – Bill Cannon; Grandchildren – Hollis Cannon, Max Cannon, Grace Cannon, Kia Hiller, and Ken Hickman; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday September 30th from 10 to 11 AM followed by private interment with military honors at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery in Edgewater, Florida.
