Rideout, Phyllis S.'s Obituary
Phyllis Rideout (87) of Leesburg, Florida passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024 at Bedrock Rehab in Eustis, Florida.
Phyllis was born in Mapleton, Maine, to the late Sylvester Rideout and Florence (Craig) Rideout on July 29, 1937.
She was raised on a farm in Aroostook County, Maine, in a family of five sisters and an endless supply of cousins and supportive family members. Phyllis was a very good student and would often spend hours enjoying a good book. As a young adult she became a registered X-ray technician and in later life served in various capacities in the healthcare industry. Phyllis was a graduate of Zion Bible Institute in Providence, Rhode Island, and remained a lifelong student of in-depth Bible Study. She was honored to serve in ministry in Haiti, Puerto Rico as well as the inner city of Philadelphia.
Phyllis enjoyed several trips to different parts of the world including Alaska, Europe, Latin America, Israel, China, Russia, Haiti and Puerto Rico. It’s no surprise she was an amazing story teller.
Although Phyllis had no children of her own, she took tremendous pride showing off pictures of her many nieces and nephews, bragging about their good looks and varied accomplishments. Phyllis loved to reach out to new and old friends by phone and made a point to stay in touch.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Florence.
Phyllis is survived by her sisters Kay Hunt, Polly Vincent, Sharon Doebler (Richard) and Sherrill Betterini (William), many nieces, nephews, and her much loved family at the Salvation Army in Leesburg. A special thanks to Kay Herrin and Major Virginia Gilman for their self-sacrificing support over the last few months. The staff at Bedrock Rehab really stepped up as well to provide the love and care Phyllis needed in her final months of life.
The memorial service for Phyllis Rideout will be held Saturday, September 7 at the Salvation Army, 2605 South Street, Leesburg. Visitation: 10:00 am, Service 11:00 am, a private family burial immediately to follow.
