Philip W. Pope's Obituary
Philip Winfield Pope, 60 of Grand Island Florida passed peacefully at his home on Tuesday,
April 9, 2024.
Born November 5, 1963 in Frostburg, MD. Philip was the son of Mildred “Patsy” (Durst) Pope
Schetrompf, the late Harry Kenneth Pope (March 2001) and stepfather the late Robert
Schetrompf (December 2017). He is also proceeded in death by his brother Matthew Pope
(February 2009); brother in laws Jorge Caceres (June 2022) and John Wiley (May 2022).
Philip was a “class of 82” graduate at Salisbury Elk-Lick High School in Salisbury,
Pennsylvania. He attended mechanical trade school in Blairsville, PA. Mr. Pope continued to
excel in the area of heavy equipment mechanics for over 40 years. He served so many and
truly loved what he did. Philip was raised in Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Frostburg, MD. He
was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints in 2004. Philip was an avid
hunter and gardener. He truly enjoyed a huge campfire. Often he was found in the company of
his beloved family and friends.
Along with his mother Patsy, Forest, VA, he is survived by wife Chantelle Gorrell Pope, Grand
Island, FL. Three children Jennifer Yoder (Christopher), Grantsville, MD; Thomas Pope
(Samantha), Umatilla, FL; and Elizabeth Lynch (Christopher), Tavares, FL. Eight grandchildren,
who he adored; Ryan, Peyton and Kaitlyn Yoder; Traighten, Hawke and Hunter Pope; Isabelle
and Henry Lynch. Philip is also survived by three sisters, Connie Caceres, Hyndman, PA;
Brenda Brode, Myrtle Beach, SC; and Patricia Wiley, Corgansville, MD. As well as, two
stepbrothers Phillip Schetrompf, Moneta, VA and Mark Schetrompf, Atlanta, GA. Philip also has
several aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews who he loved dearly.
A memorial gathering will be held at Page-Theus Funeral Home in Leesburg, FL on Sunday,
April 14, 2024 from 3pm to 6pm. A formal visitation and service will be conducted on Thursday,
April 18, 2024 at Newman Funeral Home in Grantsville, MD. Visitation will begin at 10am, the
service at 11am. Immediately following there will be a grave side dedication at Mt. Zion
Methodist Church in Frostburg, MD where Philip will be laid to rest. All are welcome to attend.
