Nadine M. Millett's Obituary
Nadine M. Orski Millett was born on May 26, 1945, to Loretta and Conrad Orski in Brooklyn, NY. She attended Catholic Schools and graduated from All Saints HS with honors. She earned a AS from Suffolk County Community College, Selden, LI, NY, & a BS & MBS from Husson (College) University, Bangor, ME. Nadine taught Business and Technology subjects for 37 years. The last 25 years of which, she taught at John Bapst Memorial HS, Bangor, ME, and was an adjunct professor at Husson (College) University where she taught in the Dept. of Education and held the title of Senior Lecturer of Education teaching advanced education courses and placed them in student teaching positions.
In 1979, she was named Teacher of the Year in the field of vocational education by the Maine Association of Adult Public-School Educators, (MAPSE), and in 1996 was named Maine's Business Teacher of the Year by the Business Education Association of ME (BEAM). She had an unwavering passion for teaching and loved every aspect of the field. Her commitment to her students was unparalleled and she strived to make an impact on each one of her students. She chaired many committees during her tenure & held many administrative positions. She also evaluated private schools throughout New England (NEW ENGLAND ASSOCIATION OF PRIVATE SCHOOLS).
On June 22, 1968, she married the love of her life Stephen E. Millett. They were very well matched, having the same educational background and values although growing up very differently. Together they were very involved in raising their two sons & the life of their community & St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, Brewer, ME, the Boy Scouts of America in Eddington and Brewer, ME, and youth baseball- Farm League, Little League, and Senior Little League, Band & Sports Boosters, and Church Youth Group Advisors. Upon moving to The Plantation in Leesburg, FL, 2006, together they became active in their village being very involved in & held leadership positions. They enjoyed good food & wine, traveling, having seen 40 of the great US states, most national parks & much of Canada. Both were lovers of history and nature. In addition, they enjoyed cruising seeing countries on 3 continents. In addition, Nadine loved to read, cook, & played Mah Jong which she said kept her mind sharp.
Nadine was devoted to her faith and church and proud of her Polish heritage as her four grandparents came to America separately with little in their pockets, worked hard, and raised successful children. She served as a Licensed Eucharistic Minister for 35 years, Lector, a Licensed Visiting Eucharistic Minister taking communion to shut-ins, chaired several church committees. In 2016, she was admitted to the Order of the Daughters of the King, and international organization of Roman Catholic, Episcopal, and Lutheran Women.
Nadine was a devoted mother and grandmother & was proud of both her sons' accomplishments and those of her grandchildren. The Milletts were a true international family as granddaughter Ezare Lidia was adopted from Ethiopia and grandson Benjamin from China.
She is survived by her husband Steve of 57 years, sons Scott, Jeffrey (Amy), Grandchildren, Ezare L. Millett, Delaney M. Millett, Emma G. Millett, Benjamin M. Millett, her sister Deborah A. Welsh (Joseph), sister-in-law The Rev. Linda A. Hatch (Michael), nieces and a nephew & many cousins.
When Nadine met people, they were strangers but left as friends. As a tribute in honor & memory of Nadine, please perform random acts of kindness throughout your lives, for everyone you meet may be fighting a battle you know nothing about.
Nadine's funeral will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, Lee Street, Leesburg, FL, on (Pending Service Time). A celebration of her life will follow the funeral service in the parish hall. Please share memories with those who attend. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Order of the Daughters of the King, St. James Episcopal Church, Lee Street, Leesburg, FL 34748.
