Melvy Tapia Quiroga, born in Cochabamba, Bolivia July 4, 1944, went to be with our Lord on June 11, 2025. Her parents were Guillermo Quiroga and Ana Quiroga Aguilar. At the age of 2, Melvy's family moved to La Paz where she spent her primary years. She worked as an Executive Secretary of the Government and also a secretary to the owner of the Mercedes Benz company.
When she was 22 years old, she received a Christmas card at El Prado Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher. It was from a young Bolivian man living in the United States expressing his desire to meet her. Melvy reluctantly replied a year later upon the insistence of her mother. After 6 months of correspondence, Melvy agreed to meet this young man named Samuel Tapia. So, he traveled from California to Bolivia in September of 1966. Their magical meeting was in front of the Government Palace in La Paz. It was love at first sight. They were married by Proxy on November 18, 1967. Their church wedding was March 23, 1968 in her beloved El Prado Baptist Church.
Making a life together in Southern California, they had two children, Ivan and Lynette. Melvy loved and supported her children in all they did. She was their greatest cheerleader. The family grew with two grandchildren: Caelen, son of Ivan and Adrienne; and Ana, daughter of Lynette and John Osborn.
Melvy was a loving and nurturing Abuelita. She helped care for her grandson, Caelen, in his early years and traveled with Anita while Lynette was performing. She was the Matriarch of the family, keeping in touch with all of her nieces. She would always do her best to keep the family connected despite the distances.
Melvy and Samuel vacationed in many places around the world. In Europe they visited Greece, Italy, France, Spain,Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, and Germany. In South America, they visited exotic places like Iguazu Falls in Argentina, Machu Picchu in Peru, and Madidi, which is a region in the Bolivian Amazons. In North America, they often visited family in Canada and enjoyed an incredible cruise in Alaska.
Family vacations included: Yosemite, Yellowstone National Park, several islands in the Caribbean, and her favorite place was Hawaii. On their last trip to Hawaii they were able to make a very special vacation with just their two grandchildren. Her last vacation with Samuel was to China where she realized her dream of petting a live Panda.

Melvy loved animals, especially her eight pet dogs she had in her lifetime: Cachito,Twiggy, King-Kong I, Chiquitita, King-Kong II, Bruce, Loki, and Piccolo. She continued loving all the pets in the neighborhood and even Captain Jack, her Grandpup.
For those who knew Melvy, she loved playing games. Her favorite game was Gin, where she will forever be the reigning Champion! Well-played, Mamí!
Above all, Melvy loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Her daily prayer was for all her loved ones to know the Lord. She had a smile that would light up everyones heart.
Melvy’s favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 30:7-9.
“O God, I beg two favors from you; let me
have them before I die. First, help me
never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither
poverty nor riches! Give me just enough
to satisfy my needs. For if I grow rich, I
may deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?”
And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus
insult God’s holy name.”
Melvy is survived by her loving husband Samuel Tapia; her children Ivan and Lynette Tapia; grandchildren Caelen Tapia, and Ana Osborn; and her sister Edith
Quiroga.

Melvy Tapia Quiroga, nació en Cochabamba, Bolivia, el 4 de Julio de 1944, partió al la presencia del Señor el 11 de Junio de 2025. Sus padres fueron Guillermo Quiroga y Ana Quiroga Aguilar. A los 2 años, la familia de Melvy se mudó a La Paz, donde pasó sus primeros años de primaria. Trabajó como Secretaria Ejecutiva del Gobierno y también como secretaria del dueño de la empresa Mercedes Benz.
A los 22 años, recibió una tarjeta de Navidad en la Iglesia Bautista El Prado, donde era maestra de escuela dominical. Era de un joven boliviano residente en Estados Unidos, quien expresaba su deseo de conocerla. Después de un año, Melvy respondió ante la insistencia de su madre. Después de seis meses de correspondencia, Melvy aceptó conocer a este joven llamado Samuel Tapia. Así, viajó de California a Bolivia en Septiembre de 1966. Su mágico encuentro tuvo lugar frente al Palacio de Gobierno en La Paz. Fue amor a primera vista. Se casaron por poder el 18 de Noviembre de 1967. Su boda religiosa se celebró el 23 de Marzo de 1968 en su querida Iglesia Bautista El Prado.
Al comenzar su vida juntos en el sur de California, tuvieron dos hijos: Iván y Lynette.
Melvy amaba y apoyaba a sus hijos en todo lo que hacían. La familia creció con dos nietos: Caelen, hijo de Iván y Adrienne; y Ana, hija de Lynette y John Osborn.
Melvy era una abuelita cariñosa. Ayudó a cuidar a su nieto, Caelen, en sus primeros años y viajaba con Anita mientras Lynette cantaba. Era la Matriarca de la familia, manteniéndose en contacto con todas sus sobrinas. Siempre hacía todo lo posible por mantener a la familia conectada a pesar de la distancia.
Melvy y Samuel vacacionaron en muchos lugares del mundo. En Europa, visitaron Grecia, Italia, Francia, España, Suiza, Bélgica, Países Bajos, Austria y Alemania. En Sudamérica, visitaron lugares exóticos como las Cataratas del Iguazú en Argentina, Machu Picchu en Perú y Madidi, una región de la Amazonía Boliviana. En Norteamérica, visitaban con frecuencia a sus familiares en Canadá y disfrutaron de un increíble crucero por Alaska.
Sus vacaciones familiares incluyeron: Yosemite, el Parque Nacional de Yellowstone, varias Islas del Caribe, y su lugar favorito fue Hawái. En su último viaje a Hawái, pudieron disfrutar de unas vacaciones muy especiales solo con sus dos nietos. Su última vacación con Samuel fue a la China, donde cumplió su sueño de acariciar un panda vivo.
Melvy amaba a los animales, especialmente a sus ocho perros: Cachito, Twiggy, King-Kong I, Chiquitita, King-Kong II, Bruce, Loki y Piccolo. Ella siguió amando a todas las mascotas del vecindario e incluso al Capitán Jack, la mascota de Anita.
Para quienes conocían a Melvy, le encantaba jugar videojuegos. Su juego favorito era el Gin, donde ¡siempre será la campeona! ¡Bien jugado, Mamí!
Por encima de todo, Melvy amaba al Señor Jesucristo. Su oración diaria era que todos sus seres queridos conocieran al Señor. Tenía una sonrisa que iluminaba el corazón de todos.
El versículo bíblico favorito de Melvy era Proverbios 30:7-9.
Sólo dos cosas te pido, Señor; no me las niegues antes de que muera:
Aleja de mí la falsedad y la mentira;
no me des pobreza ni riquezas sino sólo el pan de cada dia.
Porque teniendo mucho, podría desconocerte y decir: “¿Y quién es el Señor?”
Y teniendo poco, podría llegar a robar y deshonrar así el nombre de mi. Dios.
A Melvy le sobreviven su amado esposo Samuel Tapia; sus hijos Iván y Lynette Tapia; sus nietos Caelen Tapia y Ana Osborn; y su hermana Edith Quiroga.
