Mattie Arnell Brown's Obituary
Dr. Mattie Arnell Brown age 69, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 27, 2012 in Leesburg, Florida. Mrs. Brown was born on January 29, 1943 in Gary, Indiana to Arthur and Dora Hawks. She moved to Leesburg in 1994 from New Castle, Pennsylvania and was a retired teacher and librarian for the Ben Franklin Junior High School in New Castle, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Penn State University, Clarion State University, and the University of Pittsburgh. She was a member of the Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Leesburg, Florida. She will be remembered by those close to her for her love of books and Dolls and her passion for mentoring young students in local schools. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, and the World Who’s Who of Women. She was pre-deceased by her parents Arthur and Dora Hawks, and her son Douglas Leon Brown.Her survivors include:2 Daughters – Dora Lynn Sherry of Punxsutawney, PA; and Deborah Leigh Dennis of New Castle, PA; a Sister – Mary Elizabeth Medina of Crestview, FL; 7 Grandchildren – Michael Brown, Keneesha Dennis, Anthony Dennis Jr., Martika Dennis, Marterius Brown, Akyla Brown and Jordan Gardner; 6 Great-Grandchildren, and a Niece – Maria Blair. Funeral services have been scheduled for Monday, November 5, 2012 at 11:00am at Page-Theus Funeral Home Chapel, Leesburg, FL.The family will receive friends at Page-Theus Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at Page Theus Funeral Home with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
