Lon Dale Whelchel's Obituary
Lon Dale Whelchel passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at the age of 72. He was born on December 2, 1940 in Marion, IN to the late Alonzo and Guenevere Whelchel. Lon served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator for a civil contractor and later drove for Horizon Transportation. Lon enjoyed playing cards, and using the computer in his spare time. He leaves behind his wife, Kathy of over six years, three sons; Eric (Sheila), Keith (Judith), and Greg (Michelle) Whelchel, two step-sons; Tim (Tara) Donovan, and Patrick (Dallas) Orlando. He is also survived by three brothers, three sisters, four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Lon was known for being a quiet man who was very considerate of others, and a true gentleman. A memorial service is to be held on Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. in Gardenia Park, in Fruitland Park, FL.
