Dr. LEO FRANK KRZEMINSKI's Obituary
LEESBURG, FL – Dr. Leo F. Krzeminski, age 91, of Leesburg passed away Wednesday March 29, 2017 under the care of the Cornerstone Hospice House in The Villages, FL.
Leo was born July 3, 1925 in Greenport, Long Island, NY to Frank & Lottie (Albert) Krzeminski. Leo graduated from Greenport High School in 1943. Upon graduation he joined the United States Navy and served as an Aviation Electronic Technician’s Mate. After discharge from the US Navy he graduated from Hofstra University and received his doctorate in biochemistry from Purdue University. Leo worked for the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, MI doing pharmaceutical research before retiring and moving to Florida for his retirement years.
Leo married Irene Hess on September 6, 1953 and they were married 54 years when Irene passed away. Leo later married Phyllis Hawk on May 21, 2008.
Leo was very active in the United States Power Squadron obtaining the rank of Commander. He loved to work with wood making a variety of items. His family will remember him for his intricate model ships that he built.
Leo is survived by his wife Phyllis Krzeminski; 3 daughters: Karin (William) Hansard of Naples, FL, Gail (Mike) Hoyt of Grand Haven, MI and Dawn (Derek) Wheaton of Kalamazoo, MI; 2 stepsons: Nelson (Laura) Hawk of Lawrenceville, GA and Mark (Debbie) Hawk of Oak Ridge, TN; 7 grandchildren: Craig Maki, Lynn Maki, Aaron (Andrea) Hoyt, Brian Hoyt, Audrey Hoyt, Carly Wheaton and Stuart Wheaton, along with numerous nieces, nephews and step grandchildren. Leo had 3 special nephews: Mark (Kathy) McPherson, Scott (Laurie) McPherson and Todd (Julie) McPherson and a special niece Nancy Bernier.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife Irene, his parents, and a brother, Walter Krzeminski.
A memorial service for Leo will be held at a future date. Inurnment will be in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Page-Theus Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 914 West Main Street in charge of arrangements. www.pagetheusfuneralhome.com
