Lenburn Patrick Evans' Obituary
Lenburn Patrick Evans was born on August 1, 1936, in Frankfield, Clarendon Jamaica West Indies to Alexander and Laura Evans. He was the third eldest of their six children. Lenburn had a passion for singing and was affectionately nicknamed Paul Robeson, after the famous concert artist and actor. A voracious reader, Lenburn also enjoyed performing and writing short stories. After graduating from Holmwood Practical Training Center, Lenburn worked in agriculture. When the traveling bug began to bite, Lenburn migrated to Birmingham, England; by then family and friends had moved there, and they welcomed him.
Lenburn met Suzanne Jackson a few years later. They soon married and had a son, Paul Montgomery. Over time, they went their separate ways and Lenburn relocated to Wolverhampton, Staffordshire. Lenburn pursued a career in electronics and eventually met and married Ena (Carol) Murdock. Lenburn and Ena had two children: Frances and Karl. Encouraged by his sisters Joyce, Shirley (Charm) and Herma, already residing in the United States, Lenburn decided to migrate and initially settled in Brooklyn, New York. Ena, Frances, and Karl soon followed, joining Lenburn in January 1970. Lenburn always sought better experiences for his children, frequently stressing the importance of education and ever encouraging them to aim high.
Lenburn continued in the field of electronics, working as the head technician for Lenox Hill Hospital for three decades. Like his father Alexander, Lenburn’s enterprising spirit led him to invest in various businesses throughout this time. He never stopped reading and mastering new skills until illness curtailed his pursuits.
Lenburn loved travel, literature, discourse, and music. He chronicled the life of those around him using video and audio and went all out to make his family and friends feel warm and welcome. During the Christmas season, those who gathered at the Evans household ate rich food, sang carols, played games, and sat by the fireplace.
After retiring from Lenox Hill Hospital, Lenburn and Ena relocated to Florida. Early on Saturday August 13, 2022, after battling chronic illness, Lenburn Evans departed this life. He was 86 years old. Lenburn was preceded in death by his parents Alexander and Laura, and his sisters Joyce and Herma. He is survived by his wife Ena (Carol); his children Paul, Frances, and Karl; his siblings Calvin, Madge, and Shirley (Charm); nieces: Susan and Elizabeth, nephews: Yuri, Gary, David, Andres, Donovan, and many cousins. Lenburn Evans was well loved and will be missed dearly.
