LaVeta Mae Dunn's Obituary
LaVeta Mae Symons Dunn passed away on Saturday April 20 2024, at Trinity Springs Assisted Living in Oxford, Florida. She was 92 years of age.
LaVeta was born February 8 1932 in Pontiac, West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, the daughter of Helen and Walter Symons. She graduated from Sterling High School in Arenac County and married her high school sweetheart John Jacob Dunn in 1951. LaVeta supported John as he earned his degree and US ROTC appointment at Michigan College of Mining and Technology while raising their first two children.
As a military wife, she moved with her growing family around the country before they settled in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin for two decades. In 1981 LaVeta and John retired to Florida. LaVeta was an amazing mother and wife, intelligent, strong and resilient; and supportive of her husband
and their children’s pursuits. She enjoyed craft making, romance novels, quiet coffee breaks and holiday celebrations, and excelled at home baking. The family flower gardens were a color riot of tiger lily, rose, iris, zinnia, gladiolus and columbine, busy with honey bees from the family hives.
LaVeta is survived by her sister Gaynol Symons Marsh; husband John Dunn and daughters Shelley Placito Leaser, Penny Metoxen, Lisa Dunn [Bemski]; her many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and
preceded in death by son Michael Dunn (2000). Farewell, LaVeta; you will be missed.
Charitable donations may be made in LaVeta’s name to the VITAS Hospice, Mt. Dora, Florida.
