Karen Williams McGatrey's Obituary
Karen Williams McGatrey, 81 of Leesburg, Florida, died September 4, 2024 in Tavares, Florida .
Born in Utica, New York, March 11, 1943 she was the daughter of the late Caroline A. and John R. Williams and a graduate of Whitesboro
High School, Whitesboro, New York.
Karen enjoyed a distinguished 28-year career at New York Telephone Company, retiring as Manager, Message Investigation Center, Albany, New York, in 1990. Ultimately retiring to Leesburg, Florida in 2004, Karen and husband Wayne (Duff) McGatrey enjoyed retirement to the fullest. Karen was active in many community groups as well as the Plantation Ladies' Golf Association. A woman with an infectious laugh, and a history of great generosity and compassion for others, will be missed dearly by close friends in Florida and New York.
Karen was an active and valued member of the Community United
Methodist Church, volunteering in many capacities. She also volunteered countless hours at the Morrison United Methodist Church
Thrift store in Leesburg, Florida.
Karen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, Wayne (Duff) McGatrey, (2014). She is survived by a brother, John Williams, a cherished niece, Diana Crane and nephew, Mark Williams.
Although surrounded by a large and loyal circle of close friends, there will be no service, per Karen's humble request. Memorial contributions
in her memory are encouraged to Community United Methodist Church,
309 College Avenue, Fruitland Park, Florida 34731. Arrangements have been entrusted to Page-Theus Funeral Home, Leesburg, Fl. Final resting
place will be the Old Gurn Spring Cemetery, Wilton, New York.
