James Douglas McClure's Obituary
James Douglas “Doug” McClure, 74, of Land O’ Lakes, FL passed away on December 5, 2025. Doug was born on August 18, 1951, in Huntington, WV, to his parents; Edgar and Patricia (Price) McClure.
The family soon moved to California for a brief time, and then to Hingham, MA until the family relocated to Roanoke, VA in 1959.
Growing up, Doug enjoyed playing sports, building model cars, flying model planes and building long-term friendships along the way. Once in high school, Doug began his lifelong love of cars and motorcycles. His motorcycle adventures included racing motocross, flat track and drag racing…legally! A couple of mishaps on his various motorcycles over the years resulted in a couple of hospital stays. He then added his love interest of boats, and anything else mechanical.
Doug moved to Florida in 1986, to be closer to his mother, and to begin a new adventure in the great sunshine state. His adventures took him to The Wilbert Group where he used his many skills and talents until his passing. Doug genuinely loved his work, and all the people he worked with, many of which became lifelong friends. During his time in Florida, Doug found much enjoyment and peace kayaking and fishing.
Doug’s generosity, and selfless service to others, was one of his greatest attributes. He truly loved helping people, and through his actions he touched many lives. Those left to cherish will always remember his kind and honest ways and be thankful he came into their lives.
Doug is preceded in passing by his parents; Patricia Price McClure and Edgar Manley McClure, sister Peggy McClure Griffin, brother John McClure and nephew Kevin McClure.
Doug is survived by his siblings; Edward McClure (Thais), Kathleen McClure, David McClure (Sarah), Carolyn McClure Grau (Rob), sister-in-law, Barbara Williams McClure and brother-in-law Leo Griffin, as well as nieces and nephew; Kayden McClure, Keli McClure, Grace Tyree, Tom Griffin and Tiffany Griffin Arterburn.
A celebration of life will be held in Land O’ Lakes at a future time.
