James Albert Roberts Jr.'s Obituary
OBITUARYJames Albert Roberts JrAfter a long and very courageous battle with cancer, James Albert Roberts Jr. 66 of Fruitland Park passed away on Friday, March 20, 2009. At the time of his death he was surrounded by his wife and children as he left this earth and moved on to heaven. Jim was born on April 17, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from South Boston High School in 1959 and entered the United States Air Force where he served until 1962. After he was honorably discharged Jim lived in California, New Hampshire, and Maine. Jim and his wife Brenda moved to Florida in 1992. For over 50 years Jim has enjoyed both an active social life and very successful career as a business owner. Living in Florida meant that Jim had more time to devote to his three favorite past-times; Golf, EBAY, and the American Legion. EBAY was how he earned a living but "Thunderball," as he was known to his friends, was a avid golfer and could often be found on the local courses several times a week. Jim was also devoted to the American Legion, Post 219, Fruitland Park, where he served as Commander, Chaplin and Treasurer. His time spent at the "Legion" allowed him to make many wonderful friends and acquaintances. He was a driving force in the success and prosperity of the existing "Legion" and he leaves this earth with the respect and admiration of hundreds of past and present members. His presence as both a leader and member will be sorely missed. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Brenda. She will continue to reside in Fruitland Park. He is also survived by 4 children and their spouses: sons Mark (Kathi) Roberts, of Leesburg, Timothy (Crystal) Manly of Port Hadlock, Wa., Thomas (Crystal) Roberts of Belfast, Me., and daughter DeeDee (Michael) Christensen of Fruitland Park. Jim leaves behind a wonderful legacy as both a parent and consummate grandparent. He was adored by all of his 12 grandchildren and I great grand child; Daniel, Lauren, Sarah, Conner, Christian, Amber, Natalie Rose, Ashley, Jessica, Dylan, Austin, and recently Timmy (born 2/23/09). His only great grandson, Conner Alexander was delivered on New Year's Day, 2009.
