Isaac Farris, Jr.'s Obituary
Isaac Farris, the eighth child of Isaac Farris, Sr. and Drucilla Farris was born March 22, 1923 in Ozark, Alabama. He learned and experienced the value of hard work at an early age. While growing up during the Great Depression, he and his nine siblings had to farm to put food for the table. Everybody had to work! When Isaac reached his 18th birthday he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a paratrooper. As a soldier in World War II he was trained to go into battle by parachute as a member of an airborne unit. His unit also engaged in fighting forest fires around the country. He was honored to be a part of the Triple Nickels which was an entirely Black regiment. He served his country faithfully and after serving 4 years he received an honorable discharge.Isaac Farris arrived in Leesburg, Florida in 1947 and later married Betty Jean Barnes. To this marriage, their son Larry E. Farris was born. He provided for his family, the community, and church. He was a proud veteran who truly believed in honoring the military. He wore his uniform with pride in the parades and to church when the veterans were being honored. He boasted even more by displaying his D.A.V. membership tag on the front of his vehicles. Isaac Farris’ orders to come home were received on May, 26, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Farris, daughters, Jacqueline Lewis, Linda Pitts and Delphine Wallace (David); son, Larry E. Farris (Rosene); sister, Ethel Green; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and a host of family members and friends.A visitation will be held 4-6 pm Friday, June 3, 2011 at Page-Theus Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 4th at Zion Hope Baptist Church in Leesburg.
