Helen M Williams' Obituary
Helen Mae Irene Williams, age 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13th in Lake Mary, FL with family by her side. She was born May 20, 1929 in Wakefield, MI to Emily and Urho Johnson. Helen attended the University of Michigan and Harper Hospital School of Nursing, earning her Registered Nurse certification. She married Walter D. (Dave) Williams in August, 1952 and they remained married for 63 years until Dave passed. They raised 4 children in Warren, MI. After all her children were attending school, she resumed her nursing career in the challenging field of psychiatric mental health which lasted nearly 20 years. In her 'retirement' she practiced hospice nursing in Northern Michigan. The example of a working, career oriented mother was valued by all her children and continued a tradition set by her own mother. Helen served as the neighborhood first-aider with all the nearby kids brought to her for assessment of bumps, bruises and to have stitches removed.
Helen and Dave were active in various Episcopal churches throughout their lives. She was a member of Daughters of the King. Once they permanently located to Leesburg, FL she enjoyed meetings and outings with her Red Hat friends, book club and golfing. She even achieved a hole in one! Helen was an avid traveler, knitter, and lover of pets over the years. She enjoyed both indoor and outdoor gardening, particularly her African Violets. She and Dave enjoyed their Manhattan cocktail before dinner on most nights.
Helen is survived by her daughters Nancy McKenna and Karen (Mike) Zielke, son Brian (Susan) Williams and daughter-in-law Brenda Williams. She is survived by 8 grandchildren: Julia, Alex, Cody, Rachel (Michael), David, Michael (Kelly), Mitchell (Kaly) and Kendall Grace (Logan) and four great-grandchildren. Helen is predeceased by her parents, husband Dave, son Timothy and sister Mary Ann Kemper.
The family wishes to thank Brookdale - Lake Mary and AdventHealth Hospice for their loving care of our mother.
