West was very special to me— I first met him as a young girl on a family trip in 1967, where we connected with another Navy buddy. We dropped him back of in DC and I recall crying for a long time when we left, although I had only known him a few days. He became a good friend to my family , visiting us often when on leave. He eventually stayed in MS with us for several years. He was so kind and generous to my brother and I and good friend to my parents. My last contact with West was in late 1999 when we thought everything wound end in 2000. He was so proud of finding his son and having a family.
My heart hurts tonight as I realize too late that he passed away several years ago.
Ken Burns Vietnam documentary brought back memories of West and I had to know his whereabouts. PI’msorry I didn’t keep in touch more.
Please know what a special person he was to me and my family in the 70’s .
