George M. Owens' Obituary
George M. Owens, age 64 passed away at his residence on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. George was born in Dayton, Ohio and made Florida his home as a small child. He entered funeral service in 1972 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and obtained his Florida Funeral Director’s License in 1976. During his career he served as a manager and sales manager of various funeral homes and cemeteries throughout the state of Florida. When asked why he chose “Funeral Service” as a career he once said, “I have always taken great pride in being able to help families on the worst day of their lives.” He was also proud to have served his country in the U. S. Army, and was a former member of the Leesburg Noon Kiwanis Club.During his leisure time he enjoyed traveling in his fifth-wheel camper with his wife Joanne and their four small dogs (Patches, Zoey, Snickers and Hershey) and spending time on the water boating. He enjoyed fishing and at one point in his life worked as a fishing guide in South Florida. George is survived by his wife of 20 years- Joanne; Son- Blake Owens of North Carolina, Daughter – Shannon (Mike) Krupa of Tallahassee; Step-Daughter – Vicky Lynn (Kevin) O’Halloran of Canada; Brothers – Les Owens of Naples and Mark Owens of Atlanta; Sister- Karen Bustillo – Tampa; and 4 grandchildren – Reghan, Hannah, Sarah, and Keegan.The family will receive friends at Page-Theus Funeral Home and Cremation Services 914 West Main Street, Leesburg, Florida on Monday, February 13, 2012 from 11:00 A. M. - 12:45 P. M. with a service following 1:00 P. M. at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in the Sanctuary Mausoleum Chapel. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to: South Lake Animal League, Inc. P. O. Box 121504, Clermont, FL 34712-1504 Page-Theus Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with all arrangements.
