How did Eileen make you smile?
If there was a second “love of Eileen’s life,” it had to be her small poodle, “Mika.” True, Mika could be a little “yappy.” But this never seemed to bother Eileen. It was just part of their talking to each other. Eileen fed her, held her, let her know she was truly loved. And when Dad passed away in 2021, Mika was there for Eileen during her time of sadness and grief. I’m so glad they had each other. That still makes me smile.

What’s a lesson you learned from Eileen?
I’m not sure it’s so much a lesson “learned” as a lesson “demonstrated.” While vacationing together in North Carolina one summer, Dad had a stroke – on Eileen’s birthday, actually. We weren’t sure that he would make it out of the operating room. He survived, but not without some long-term damage. This required months of physical rehabilitation, both in North Carolina and back home in Florida. Eileen was always at his side, sleeping in uncomfortable chairs in small hospital and rehab rooms. She was a constant source of encouragement to him, patient and loving. Eileen lived out her wedding vow of “keeping her husband in sickness and in health.”
A wonderful lesson for each of us.
For me, it was just how much Eileen loved our dad, Robert (Bob).
She regularly called him “the love of my life,” and she obviously meant it. They loved to travel together when they could, and had a lively banter between them, showing how much they cared for each other. While not born in the same year, they did celebrate back-to-back birthdays, August 23rd and 24th. Robert and Eileen had a wonderful married life together, and we know that now they will be together in eternity.
