Edwin Schleben's Obituary
Edwin Schleben, 74, of Leesburg passed away on July 26, 2023. Born on August 11, 1948, in Rogers City, Michigan, Edwin's life was a tapestry woven with vibrant threads of travel, storytelling, hard work, and love.
He spent 40 years as a Merchant Marine. He was a deckhand, and later a cook aboard shipping vessels for Oglebay Norton.
Edwin travelled extensively, leaving footprints in the sands of California, discovering the allure of Las Vegas, and gazing upon the breathtaking beauty of the Grand Canyon. He found solace in the great outdoors, camping beneath starry skies and casting his line into serene waters, delighting in the simplicity and tranquility of nature.
Edwin was a wonderful storyteller. Although some of the stories may have been embellished, his captivating narratives were a testament to his zest for life.
He firmly believed in doing things the right way, and his dedication to fairness and integrity earned him the respect of others.
Family held a special place in Edwin's heart. He treasured moments spent with his loved ones and worked tirelessly to provide for them. Even in his final days, he continued to show his love and care for those closest to him.
In 2008, Edwin moved to Florida following his retirement. There, he became an active member of various social clubs, including the Eagles Club, Moose Lodge, and AmVets. Edwin's love for music also led him to serve as a DJ for many events hosted by these clubs, spreading joy and harmony among his fellow members.
Edwin is preceded in death by his parents John and Ethel, his daughter Catherine, and his beloved wife of 56 years, Sharon.
He is survived by his sons Richard and Christopher; brother John; sisters Gertrude and Darlene; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
