Dorothy Lynch "Dot" O'Berry's Obituary
Dorothy Lynch “Dot” O’Berry, 96, Clermont, FL went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2018 at the Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont, FL surrounded by her loving family. Dot was born October 4, 1921 in Nansemond County, VA to her parents James Carey Lynch and Eva (Brinkley) Lynch.
During World War II, she worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a key punch operator. On February 18, 1945 she married her sweetheart Bennett C. O’Berry and became a devoted wife and homemaker. When her youngest daughter was 3 she became an Avon Sales Representative and worked for over 50 years with the company.
She was a member of the Lynnhaven Colony Congregational Church, UCC in Virginia Beach, VA. where she was very active in many aspects of the church, including being a long term deacon, an officer of the Women’s Fellowship and active volunteer in the Child Development Center. In 2011 her work at the church was honored by her receipt of the Lynnhaven Colony Congregational Church, UCC Service Award and in 2012 she was again honored by her church congregation receiving the title of Honorary Deacon. Dot and her best friend Dot Ramborger were a loved, winning twosome at numerous church activities. She was also president of her local chapter of AARP.
Eventually she moved to Clermont FL to spend her last few years with her youngest daughter, Dorothy Spartz and her family
She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband Bennett C. O’Berry as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory daughters: Dianne Florence and husband Dennis of Virginia Beach, VA, Regena Williams and husband Perry of Virginia Beach, VA and Dorothy Spartz and husband Steven of Clermont, FL; brother-in-law, Walter O’Berry, D.D.S. of Jacksonville, NC; eight grandchildren: Christian (Beth) Florence, Scott (Jackie) Florence, Carrie (Stefan) Michalski, Jason Florence, Kim (Brandon) Palmer, Bennett Spartz and special friend Francesca “Frankie” Magliocchetti, Stephanie Spartz and John Spartz; twelve great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews; as well as her doggies Roxy and Scarlett.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018, 7-8 PM at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1264 Great Neck Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23454. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, April 14, 2018, 11:00 AM at Lynnhaven Colony United Church of Christ, 2217 W. Great Neck Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23451, with burial at Liberty Spring Christian Church Cemetery, 4213 Whaleyville Blvd., Suffolk, Va. 23434 at 3 PM.
