Dorothy Mary Makela's Obituary
Dorothy Mary Makela age 97 passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016 in Tavares, Florida. Dorothy was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to the Leesburg area (Hawthorne) over 10 years ago from Bradenton, Florida. She was a homemaker most of her life and she was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Leesburg. Those closest to her would describe her as a “Peach” as she was a well-liked, gentle soul. She traveled the United States with her late husband of over 57 years, first moving with his work as a Union Electrician and later, on a motorcycle which they used to visit 48 different states. She enjoyed camping during her travels and with her family. She also enjoyed being a member of the “Kitchen Band” at the Hawthorne Community, playing her washboard for seniors at area nursing centers.
She was pre-deceased by her husband – Walter E. Makela; Sister – Joyce Ferriby; Grandchild – Connie Watt; and Great-Grandchild – Tony Congeni. Her survivors include her daughter – Nancy Waller of Leesburg; a son – Allen E. Makela of Ohio; grandchildren – Walter (Janet) Makela; Margaret (Arthur) Moore; Thomas (Mary) Makela; Diane Makela; Allan Richards; Debra Richards; Kimberly Congeni; and Dawn (Tom) Chuha. 9 Great-Grandchildren; and 15 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
