Dorothy Ann LaBrecque's Obituary
Dorothy Ann LaBreque, 62, of Leesburg, FL., passed away on April 13, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Waltham, Massachusetts on July 31st, 1957, to Linda Richardson and the late Richard Richardson. She has lived in Springfield Massachusetts for the majority of her life.
Dorothy has earned her Associates in Administration in Business Degree from Springfield Technical Community College, and she proudly retired from the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department Springfield Massachusetts after 24 years of service. Besides her plethora of achievements, she earned with the Sheriff’s Department she was most proud of her work in helping the female detainees learning how to crochet while improving upon their self-worth and their confidence.
As a dedicated member of the Rainbow Girls as a child, her love for helping extended well into her adulthood. She enjoyed volunteering for many Freemason functions, including 'The Shriners Circus' and other non-profit organizations that included 'The Walk for Life' that raised money for cancer research and funds for the survivors and their families. Throughout her life she spent significant amount of time putting her talented hobby of crocheting to good use by making hats, gloves, and scarves for the children of Forest Park Middle School in Springfield, MA. Additionally, she would make baby blankets, and throws to full size bedspreads for anyone in need, or may have just wanted one.
While her love of Bingo started in her early years in Massachusetts, she continued to find new ways to enjoy her life; especially throughout her community in “Hawthorne at Leesburg” Florida. It was in Florida that she learned how to play shuffleboard, and discovered that she was a mean bocce player. She thoroughly enjoyed everything from the many dances and concerts, to just visiting with friends and having a good laugh. And lastly, she was a member of the 'Ladies of Oriental Shrine of North America'.
