Dorothy E Hopkins' Obituary
Dorothy Elizabeth Hopkins, 88, passed away December 19, 2018 at Crane’s View Lodge, Memory Care ALF in Clermont, FL. She was born in Rumford ME, May 16, 1930 to William J. and Elizabeth W. Kimball.
Dorothy graduated from Stephen’s Memorial High School in Rumford, then moved to the Lewiston/Auburn area where she met and married the love of her life, George Louis Hopkins. After raising her children, she returned to the workforce as an office manager/bookkeeper at the Tennis Racquet in Lewiston and then the Racquet & Fitness Club in Portland, ME until retiring to become a full-fledged Snowbird. She and George spent half of their time in Brooksville, FL, for more than 20 years. They enjoyed many happy years together filled with great friends and relatives, at many fun gatherings and as much golfing and dancing as they could in FL & ME. After George passed in April 2014, Dorothy was no longer able to live alone; son Dan moved in to the Lewiston home to keep her company until she needed more day to day help. Dorothy then moved in with her oldest daughter, living in Leesburg, FL in April 2017.
She is survived by her son, Daniel J. Hopkins of Lewiston, ME, daughters, Jean M. & husband Jim Ropella of Leesburg, FL, Kathryn H. & husband Scott Dillenback of Portland, ME, brothers, William Kimball, of Dixfield, ME, David Kimball of The Villages, FL, sister, Mary & husband Jim Pulsifer, of Peru, Maine, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Hanington, Rumford, Maine.
Dorothy will be placed with George at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, in Augusta, Maine at a later date as well as a Celebration of her Life gathering.
The family would like to thank the staff of Crane’s View Lodge’s Memory Care personnel and Cornerstone Hospice Teal & Lavender Teams for their wonderful care and compassion for Dot. Special thank you goes to our in home caregivers Nereida (Neri) Gonzalez and Marianne Wilson.
