Donald Arnoldt Tsolo's Obituary
Donald Arnoldt Tsolo, 83, of Leesburg FL, passed away peacefully at home on October 31, 2022, with his beloved wife by his side. Donald was born on May 1, 1939, in Vereeniging, South Africa to his loving parents; Jeremiah and Lydia (Tau) Tsolo.
Donald grew up in South Africa, under Apartheid, which made him realize that he needed to use education to prosper. He relocated to Lesotho and attend Pius XII College where he did a BA. Degree. He was employed there as an instructor while pursuing his Diploma in Education from the University of South Africa. Don later received a scholarship to Georgetown University in Washington, DC to do a master's degree. Don, ever the dreamer returned to Africa; this time to Zambia. to start a farm. With no experience as a farmer, he did not succeed in this endeavor. In 1972 Don was recruited by the Ministry of Education in Jamaica, to work on curriculum development. In September of 1974, Evadne and Donald crossed paths and began to date. Soon after, in March of 1975, the couple got married and moved to Pennsylvania where they raised their family. Evadne and Donald celebrated 48 loving years together.
Don received his Doctorate from Temple University and worked passionately as a behavioral specialist for many years. Don was very scholarly and loved to participate in a good-hearted political debates. He was a member of The Plantation Writers Guild and authored “The Promise: Black Youth Confront the Cauldron of Apartheid.” He was working on the second book when he was interrupted by dementia. Don, an avid tennis player, was also a member of the Plantation Tennis Association. He will be remembered fondly for his love of dancing, his contagious smile, and always having the loudest laugh in the room. Don was a friendly and positive man, he made sure to always share his joy with others. He will be missed dearly by his friends and family.
Donald is survived by his wife, Evadne, and two children: Tshaka Tsolo and (Christy) of Wheatland, PA, and Nakita Pettiford and (Vance) of Farrell, PA. As well as four precious grandchildren; Alexis, Sean, Gavin, Jylen, and Tylejea. He also has a brother, Molupe Tsolo in South Africa. He also has many loving nieces and nephews in South Africa, Jamaica, United Kingdom and the United States.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Ben and William; sisters: Paulina, Hoti and Minah.
