Donald A. Murch's Obituary
Donald A. Murch of Leesburg, Florida passed away on December 4, 2009 at the age of 85. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Dorothy; his son Robert Murch, daughter Sue Gudahl (Murch), son Peter Murch and daughters in law Eileen and Cary, grandchildren Bobby, Donnie, Kelley, Jessie, Vanessa, Cait, and Odin, great-grandchildren Daniel, Anthony and Christopher. Donald was an aircraft electronics instructor in the Army Air Corps during WW II. He started his career as a coach at the YMCA in Flushing, NY and retired as a Principal at Francis J. O'Neill Elementary School in Central Islip, NY. Donald received a Bachelor's Degree from Springfield University, and Master's Degrees from Hofstra College and SUNY Stony Brook. He was proud to be included in Who's Who in Education. He was a volunteer fireman for the Setauket Fire Department for 9 years. Upon Retirement he became a Public Safety Officer at SUNY Stony Brook. In 1990 Donald and Dorothy moved to Fruitland Park, FL where he was a volunteer fireman for the City of Fruitland Park, certified as a first responder and serving as a Lt. Safety Officer, and was a member of the Planning and Zoning Board. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed wood carving. Donald made a friend everywhere he went. He was a devoted and loving husband and the best father and grandfather anyone could ask for. He will be dearly missed. The family will receive friends at the Page-Theus Funeral Home - 914 W. Main Street, Leesburg on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 P. M. with a Christian Wake Service starting at 7:30.A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 8:30 A. M. Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Leesburg, Florida and interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
