Connie Lee Snyder's Obituary
Connie Lee Snyder passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14th, 2014 at her home in Leesburg, Florida. She was born in Yellow Creek, PA on August 11th, 1944, the daughter of Donna and David (Pete) Hale. She married Giles Snyder on January 19th, 1963.
She is survived by her husband Giles, two sons, Dave and his partner Sharyl McGrew of Oakland, CA, and Steve and his wife Sara of Christiansburg, VA, and one sister, Sue Morris, wife of Jeff, of Duncanville TX. Both her parents preceded her in death.
Connie had a passion for life that was not to be denied. She loved to travel, cook and eat, bicycle, kayak, play cards, and she loved the slot machines. She played pickleball with a vengeance, really enjoyed life and left nothing on the table. She tried base jumping, para sailing, ATV riding, extreme tubing, and horseback riding, and was a certified Scuba Diver. She loved the theme parks, and never found a roller coaster that was too fast or too tall for her. She enjoyed camping, and tried to get away at least once a month into a campground. She was living life with gusto until the end.
She attended high school at Northern Bedford County High, Yellow Creek, PA and was in the marching and concert band. Immediately after graduation in 1962 she moved to the Washington DC area, and worked for the Post Office and Agriculture Department as an Administrative Assistant until 1966. She then stayed home for 10 years to become a great mother to her two sons. In 1976 she went to work for the Prince William County (VA) school systems in many capacities. At one point she owned and operated a flower shop in Potomac Mills Mall and did catering and specialized in custom weddings. She retired from the school system on December 31st, 2005, and moved to Florida with her husband.
Upon her retirement she moved into Legacy of Leesburg, an active adult community where she volunteered on many committees, and was in charge of the Christmas decorations for two years. She also helped run the Olympics for three years. She was an active member of Morrison United Methodist Church, and volunteered her time in the church office when needed.
Her family would like to acknowledge the prayers, comfort and support we have been given by our friends and family during this very trying time. It truly means a lot to us. There is nothing better than being with and hearing from good friends and family.
A service to celebrate her wonderful life will be held at Morrison United Methodist Church, 1005 W. Main St. Leesburg, FL. on Friday, May 23rd, at 1:00 PM, with a reception afterwards in the church hall. Please plan to attend and help us celebrate and remember our good times with Connie.
Connie loved flowers, and floral expressions of sympathy would be welcome and appropriate.
