Charles H. Stockholm's Obituary
Charles H. Stockholm, 81, of Leesburg, FL died on March 20 at Lane Purcell Hospice House in Sumterville, FL, just 64 days after his beloved wife, Laurie A. Stockholm, passed in the same facility. Charles suffered from severe COPD, but remained Laurie’s steadfast companion for more than 30 years and her caregiver for the last 10 years of her life.
A native of Hallstead, Pa., Charles was one of nine children born to Paul and Vera Stockholm. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict and worked for many years in the Binghamton area in the construction contracting business. He and Laurie had also made their residence in Greene, Whitney Point, and North Carolina before moving to The Plantation at Leesburg, Florida more than 17 years ago. During his time there he was an avid and successful participant in many activities including darts and horseshoes, winning the community’s Olympics and league championships in those sports on a number of occasions.
Charles is survived by three sons Kevin (and Penny) Stockholm, of Mufreesboro, TN; David (and Linda) Stockholm of Watertown, NY; and Christopher (and Cathy) Stockholm of Lexington, SC; and by five step-children Robert Barker of Roxbury, CT.; Kathleen (and Martin) Yerkey, of Owego, NY; Susan and Janet Gleason-Barker, of Leesburg, FL; Wendy Taylor, of Leesburg, FL and Laurie (and Stephen) Craft of Binghamton, NY. He also leaves his sisters Janice (and Carl) Brown, of Deland, FL; Eleanor Fisher, Hallstead, PA; and Anne Fisher, of Hallstead, PA and a brother, Clyde Stockholm of Ormond Beach, FL, as well as eighteen grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his brothers Elmer, Earle and Alvin and a sister, Phyllis.
Charles’ ashes will be buried along with Laurie’s at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at a later date. Memorial contributions may be sent to Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778.
