Carlota Powell's Obituary
Carlota Powell, 100, passed away on Friday, September, 26th, 2025 in Port Orange, FL.
Carlota was born on July 25, 1925 in Ottine, Texas, the daughter of Jose and Erminia (Maldonado) Soto. She was a resident of the Flint, Mich., area since 1942, having originated from Crystal City, Texas. Carlota moved to Baraboo, WI in February of 2012.
On June 23, 1941, Carlota was united in marriage to Juan Martinez Sr. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1979. She then married Richard Powell on March 7, 1984 and he preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1994.
Carlota was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Flint, Mich., and a former member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Burton, Mich.
Survivors include three children, Juan Jr. (Virginia) Martinez of Flushing, Mich., Mel (Margie) Martinez of Flint, Mich., and Genaro (Joanie) Martinez of Port Orange, FL; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands and parents, Carlota is preceded in death by her children, Tony Martinez, Erminia Groves (and son-in-law, Jim), Manuela Jimenez (and son-in-law, Joe), and David Martinez; her siblings, Jose Jr and Betty Moreno; her grandchildren, Maria Mechura, John Martinez and Lori Garcia; two great-grandchildren, Josh Martinez and Jordan Garcia; and her son-in-law, Ron Mechura.
The family will be holding a memorial service for Carlota at a later time.
