Calvin C. Blauvelt, Jr. Lady Lake, FL Calvin C. Blauvelt Jr., 89, a longtime area resident, died Friday, December 31, 2010 at The Villages Regional Hospital, Lady Lake, FL, peacefully, with his family at his bedside. He was born on September 24, 1921 in Tuxedo, NY, the son of the late Calvin C. and Margaret Brooks Blauvelt. He was married to Muriel Bailey Blauvelt of Lady Lake, FL for 61 years. Calvin was retired from his 30 year career as a Radio Technician for the Palisades Interstate Park Commission. Calvin served during WW II for four years as a Radio Teletype Mechanic in the 68th Army Airways Communication System Group. He was a dedicated member of the Stony Point Ambulance Corps, serving as 2nd Lieutenant. He was a member of the Stony Point Presbyterian Church until retiring to Lady Lake, FL, in 1986 where he joined the Christ United Methodist Church. He built many friendships over the years with members of the Christ United Methodist Church; they became his extended family. An avid lover of music, after his retirement he enjoyed listening to it daily, and collected hundreds of CDs. Surviving are his loving wife, Muriel Blauvelt, Lady Lake, sister, Mildred Burt, Hyde Park, NY, children, William Blauvelt, Highland Falls, NY, Gary Blauvelt and his wife Joanne, Stony Point, NY, Ronald Blauvelt and his wife Elizabeth, Fort Montgomery, NY, Susan Birch and her husband Randy, Chincoteague, VA, Karen Blauvelt, Jesup, GA, and Donna Brown and her husband William, Millstone Township, NJ, eleven grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Moderacki, brother, William Blauvelt, and grandson, David Blauvelt. Calvin was a shy and quiet gentle soul who always gave of himself to others. He loved deeply and in his own way, and accepted the love that others gave him, in their way. He will be dearly missed by his family and everyone who knew and loved him. Memorial Services will take place 11:00 A. M., Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Christ United Methodist Church, 1313 Griffin Road, Leesburg, FL. Reverend Dr. Dan Henderson will serve as officiant. A Visitation for family and friends will start at 10:00 AM.
