Alice Yvonne Sawyer (Ockert) Kells' Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Yvonne Sawyer (Ockert) Kells on April 1, 2026. Born on March 14, 1926, in Cherryvale, Kansas. Her absence will be profoundly felt by her loved ones and all who knew her.
Yvonne was a sweet, gentle woman, known for her deep devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ. She was always dressed in her Sunday best with her hair fixed just so. She was very proud to have been a Pastors wife, a mother, grandmother, a wonderful friend, colleague, and authority on publishers of Christian literature.
Yvonne attended Stormy Point Grade School in Lees Summit, Missouri from 1932-1940, and Plymouth High School in Plymouth, Michigan and graduated in 1944.
She was married to Pastor Frank Ockert from 1946-1980. She was married a second time to the love of her life Donald Kells in 1995 (who passed in 2002). She lived in Corley Island Mobile Manor, Leesburg until going to Lake Vista Nursing Home in November 2025.
She worked in a dress shop in Plymouth before beginning her career in Christian bookstores at Church of the Nazarene College in Bourbonnais, Illinois. After raising her children and taking in several foster children as well, she opened her own bookstore in the 1980’s in downtown Leesburg, Florida.
For fun, she enjoyed listening to hymns, reading Christian romance novels, growing plants, and watching Price is Right and Jeopardy.
Yvonne is preceded in death by her husband Don, father George, mother Lilian, brothers Edward and Melvin, sons Frank Jr., Dennis, and Ronald. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Annie, grandsons Eric and Mark, great grandchildren Emily, Ryan, Ella, and Macy, and great great grandsons Sebastian, Julian, and Adrian.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 am on April 17, 2026, at Church of Nazarene 2100 Dr Martin Luther King Blvd Leesburg, FL 34748.
