Maurice Armand Vernet Jr., 86, died August 23, 2021 with family by his side in Leesburg, Florida. Maurice was born November 2, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York to Evelyn and Maurice Armand Vernet. He worked as a pressman for over 45 years at both the Long Island Press and The New York Times. Maurice was married for 35 years to his late wife Carolyn Downs. Both are survived by their six children: Stephen Vernet, Denise Giraldo, Maurice Vernet Jr., Evelyn Dauigneat, Douglas Vernet, Jacqueline Cornman. Maurice is a grandfather to fourteen children and Maurice spent more than 56 years in New York, and moved to Leesburg, Florida in 1997 with his late wife Patricia Vernet. He is survived by his significant other, Joan Little. Maurice had a passionate love affair with food - ice cream, pies, steak, and seafood were some of his favorites. He also had a love affair with sports and in his later years he enjoyed golf and could often be spotted at the driving range, cruising around the neighborhood in his golf cart, or out on the course with friends. For many years he was an avid runner and participated in the New York Marathon in 1976. His other hobbies included flirting, collecting New York Yankees memorabilia, and enjoying happy hour to the fullest extent. He will be missed. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 2nd, 2021 at Page-Theus Funeral Home, at 11:00 AM. Arrangements are entrusted to Page-Theus Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Leesburg, FL.
