May 17, 1926 - April 29, 2018
Bennie C. Nock, 91, son of Joseph H. and Grace H. Nock, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 29, 2018 with his son Bruce and daughter-in-law Jean Nock by his side. Bennie was born in Lebanon, PA and moved to Columbia, PA where he spent his childhood and early adult years. He was married to Doris for 64 years before her passing in 2010. They spent 50 years together in Manheim, PA and then retired to The Plantations At Leesburg in FL. Bennie’s tag line on Skype was “Living The Good Life In Florida Since 1995.” He loved living in FL. Bennie worked for the Pennsylvania Power & Light Company for 50 years. He advanced from a meter reader to lineman to system operator, a management position. He was one of the lucky ones who truly enjoyed his job. Bennie described himself as a “lifelong do it your-selfer.” But that was a significant underrepresentation of his talents and accomplishments as a carpenter and electrician, and he could fix just about anything. Most importantly he deeply enjoyed doing such things for his family and friends. Bennie retained an amazingly deep curiosity about how things work and why things were the way they were. “I wonder what that’s all about?” was something he said often. He was irresistibly drawn to gadgets of all sorts and especially to computers, and he was enthralled with exploring how such things worked and discovering all that they could do. Bennie loved tennis. He played until his 90th birthday. He was a familiar figure at evening tennis matches, tournaments, and social gatherings at The Plantations. He enjoyed stringing tennis rackets for his tennis friends and watching tennis on his TV or computer. The family is sincerely grateful for how warmly the tennis community at The Plantations embraced Bennie. Bennie served in the Army Air Corp and was a proud WWII veteran. He was honorably discharged on December 21, 1945. Later he was a licensed private pilot for a number of years. He was passionate about flying and fascinated by all of the newfangled, one man and homemade flying machines of today. Bennie will be buried with his wife Doris in the Florida National Cemetery (6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513) at 10 AM on May 11, 2018. Relatives and friends are respectfully encouraged to attend the short ceremony to celebrate the life of this remarkable man.Online condolences may be sent to the family at pagetheusfuneralhome.com.
