Theodore Russell Safford

Theodore Russell Safford, 99, of Fruitland Park, FL, went to be with the Lord on April 10, 2020. Theodore was born in Canton, NC, on September 21, 1920 to the late Fred and Lefa Safford. He has proudly served his country as an Army Veteran during WWII, graduated from Duke University, and retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company in charge of the Macon Branch and Macon Concept. Theodore was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Leesburg, FL, and has served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He loved spending time with his family and at church, he also enjoyed golfing, fishing, friends, and hugs. Theodore is predeceased by the love of his life for 73 years, Mabel Safford, his twin brother; James D. Safford, and his parents. He is survived by his sons; Robert G Safford of Deltona, FL., James T Safford (Kathy) of Okahumpka, FL., daughter; Carol Ann Schmelz (John) of Citra, Fl., six grandchildren; Kristy Lewis, Laura Safford, Jim Safford, Leslie Safford, Lauren Schmelz, Nathan Schmelz, five great grandchildren; William Lewis, Lindsey Lewis, Audrey Safford, Evelyn Safford, and Mark, and numerous family members and friends. Theodore was an amazing person and he will be truly missed by everyone that knew him. There will be a funeral ceremony celebrating his life on April 15, 2020 at 1:00 PM, at Page-Theus Funeral Home in Leesburg, FL., Pastor Bill Stephens will be officiating. Following the ceremony, he will be laid to rest at his final resting place, Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
