Charles T. Lloyd, 91, of Mt. Dora, FL died Nov. 30 at Cornerstone Hospice in Tavares, FL. He was a longtime Washington area resident and a Federal Government attorney from 1950 until he retired in 1979. A World War II combat officer with the 35th Infantry Division and a Bronze Star recipient, Mr. Lloyd was active in community work in Wesley Heights, Spring Valley and Potomac, MD. He began his civil service career on the Secretary of State’s committee staff for the Mutual Security Agency and AID. He was then named Assistant General Counsel of the General Services Administration before moving on to the Assistant Secretary of Defense’s International Affairs staff where he was heavily involved with the development of the F-16 fighter jet as well as foreign military base rights.A member of Congressional Country Club for over 50 years, he also served as scoutmaster for the Annunciation Parish Boy Scout Troop 74 in northwest Washington, D.C.He moved from Potomac, MD to Rehoboth Beach, DE in 1980 and to Florida in 1984. In Florida, he was active in adult literacy programs, prenatal care campaigns and the local Kiwanis. He ultimately became Lieutenant Governor of the Kiwanis Clubs of the State of Florida.A native of Hartford, CT, he was graduated from Brown University in 1942 before enlisting in the Army. After the war, he attended Yale Law School, graduating in 1947. He met and married his first wife, Maryann B. Lloyd, while both were at Yale Law. They were married for 57 years until she passed away in 2003.Survivors include his wife of nearly three years, Dorothy H. Lloyd of Mt. Dora, FL; three children, Bruce Lloyd of Pasadena, CA, Thomas Lloyd of Eustis, FL and Diane Yaeger of Scarsdale, NY; six grandchildren: Jonathan Yaeger, Michael Yaeger, Andrew Yaeger, Adam Yaeger, Sandra Lloyd and Cynthia Lloyd as well as three great grandchildren (with two more on the way).
