Benjamin Paul Goldfaden, 99, Tavares, Florida passed away on March 25, 2013 under the loving care of family and staff of Cornerstone Hospice in Tavares, FL. Mr. Goldfaden was born on September 6, 1913 in Newark, New Jersey to his parents Louis and Sonya Goldfaden. Mr. Goldfaden was an Insurance Agent with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance for many years and as well worked as a Physical Education Teacher, Basketball Coach and as a Recreation Director. He was a Professional Basketball player with the Washington Capitals and is noted in The American Softball Hall of Fame. Prior to becoming a professional player he attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where he received a full athletic scholarship for his abilities on the basketball court. He has resided in Tavares for 7 years coming from Lake Worth, Florida Mr. Goldfaden was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II and was of the Jewish faith. He was a member of the American Legion and the United Jewish Appeal and had been featured in the Extraordinary Centenarians in America. He is survived by his loving family, a son: David (Gloria) Goldfaden of Mt. Dora, FL; two daughters: Vicki (Dennis) Emmert of Tavares, FL and Sheri (Barry) Levin of Olney, MD; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years Elizabeth Goldfaden. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 10:00AM at Page-Theus Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Leesburg, FL.
